think about the years and years when others have leaned their heads against these same bricks. I can almost
hear and feel the silent, desperate screams and tears, muffled and mingled together as broken hearts spilled,
all to some invisible listener. Cries of injustice, repentance, despair and hopelessness fill every nook and
cranny. Now my own heartaches and tears are choked out through clenched teeth as I lay facing the wall, and
mingle with those of the hundreds, the thousands, that had occupied this space before me.
Captured are the invisible hieroglyphics of life in here among every rectangular line of mortar. Getting to
know each and every cinder block on a personal basis, that closes me in and shuts me out at the same time. I
stare at every little stony crack, each little pock mark, longing to be back home."
